They’re simple to prepare, requiring basic baking followed by chilling and dipping, creating an irresistible, colorful dessert that’s sure to impress.

Ingredients

Scale

Strawberry Cake

  • 1 box strawberry cake mix
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup water

Frosting & Coating

  • 1 cup cream cheese frosting
  • 12 ounces white chocolate or candy melts
  • 1/2 teaspoon pink food coloring (optional)

Decoration

  • Sprinkles or crushed freeze-dried strawberries

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan. Prepare the strawberry cake mix according to the package instructions using the vegetable oil, eggs, and water. Pour into the pan and bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool completely.
  2. Crumble and Mix: Once the cake has cooled, crumble it into a large mixing bowl. Add the cream cheese frosting and mix thoroughly until the mixture is well combined and holds its shape when rolled into balls.
  3. Roll and Chill: Roll the cake mixture into 1-inch balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Refrigerate the balls for at least 1 hour or until firm to make dipping easier.
  4. Melt Chocolate: Melt the white chocolate or candy melts according to the package instructions. If desired, add 1/2 teaspoon of pink food coloring to achieve a delicate pink hue.
  5. Dip and Decorate: Dip each chilled cake ball into the melted chocolate, letting any excess drip off before placing them back on the parchment-lined sheet. While the coating is still wet, sprinkle with sprinkles or crushed freeze-dried strawberries for decoration.
  6. Set and Serve: Refrigerate the cake balls for about 30 minutes or until the chocolate coating is firm. Serve chilled and enjoy!

Notes

  • For enhanced strawberry flavor, substitute store-bought cream cheese frosting with homemade strawberry frosting.
  • Store cake balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
