Ingredients
Scale
Filling
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Wrappers & Assembly
- 12 spring roll wrappers
- 1 large egg, beaten (for sealing)
For Frying
- Vegetable oil (for frying, about 1/4 inch in skillet)
Optional
- Dipping sauce: soy sauce mixed with chili garlic sauce
Instructions
- Prepare the filling: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, grated ginger, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, crushed red pepper flakes, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.
- Assemble the rolls: Lay a spring roll wrapper flat in a diamond shape. Place about 2 tablespoons of the beef mixture near the bottom corner of the wrapper. Fold the bottom corner over the filling, then fold in both sides to encase the filling securely. Roll tightly upwards towards the top corner. Brush the edge of the wrapper with beaten egg to seal the roll. Repeat this process with all wrappers and filling.
- Heat oil for frying: Pour vegetable oil into a large skillet, enough to cover about 1/4 inch of the pan. Heat the oil over medium heat until hot but not smoking.
- Fry the dumpling rolls: Carefully place the prepared rolls in the hot oil in batches. Fry each side for 2 to 3 minutes until the wrappers turn golden brown and the filling is cooked through, turning them gently to achieve even browning.
- Drain and serve: Remove the fried rolls from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve them warm with optional dipping sauce made from soy sauce mixed with chili garlic sauce for an extra kick.
Notes
- For a healthier alternative, bake the rolls at 400°F for 15 to 20 minutes, turning halfway through, until crispy and golden brown.
- Adjust the spicy heat by increasing or reducing the amount of crushed red pepper flakes according to taste.
- Leftover filling can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
