Description

A hearty and comforting Sausage Biscuit Breakfast Casserole that combines flaky buttermilk biscuits, savory sausage, creamy eggs, and melted cheddar cheese. Perfect for a family breakfast or brunch, this casserole is easy to prepare and bakes into a satisfying dish that serves 8.

Ingredients

Scale

Biscuits

  • 7 frozen Pillsbury Grands! Buttermilk Biscuits (baked)

Meat

  • 1 lb sausage

Dairy

  • 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 8 eggs
  • 2 cups milk

Seasoning

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350ºF (175ºC). Lightly spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare Biscuits: Chop each baked buttermilk biscuit into 6 to 8 pieces. Evenly spread the chopped biscuits across the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  3. Cook Sausage: In a skillet over medium-high heat, cook the sausage until it is no longer pink and has crumbled into small pieces. Drain any excess fat from the skillet to avoid excess grease in the casserole.
  4. Add Sausage and Cheese: Sprinkle the cooked sausage evenly over the chopped biscuit pieces. Then top the sausage layer with shredded cheddar cheese.
  5. Prepare Egg Mixture: In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper until well combined. Pour this mixture evenly over the biscuit, sausage, and cheese layers.
  6. Bake: Place the baking dish uncovered in the preheated oven and bake for 1 hour, or until the eggs are completely set and the casserole is cooked through.

Notes

  • Make sure to use fully baked biscuits before chopping; this prevents the dish from being soggy.
  • Drain the sausage well to keep the casserole from being greasy.
  • You can add vegetables like diced bell peppers or onions for extra flavor and nutrition.
  • For a spicier version, consider using spicy sausage or adding red pepper flakes to the egg mixture.
  • Allow the casserole to rest for 5-10 minutes after baking for easier slicing and serving.
