Ingredients
Scale
Pastry
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
Filling
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- ¼ cup powdered sugar
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Topping
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 tablespoon honey (optional, for extra shine)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Prepare Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix thoroughly until the mixture is smooth and free of lumps.
- Prepare Pastry: Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface and cut it into six equal-sized rectangles.
- Fill Pastries: Spoon a generous amount of the cream cheese mixture into the center of each pastry rectangle, ensuring it is evenly distributed.
- Seal Pastries: Fold each puff pastry rectangle over the filling to create a pocket, then gently press the edges to seal the filling inside and prevent leaking during baking.
- Apply Egg Wash: Using a pastry brush, lightly brush the tops of the sealed pastries with the beaten egg. This will give them a beautiful golden color once baked.
- Bake: Place the pastries on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastries are puffed up and golden brown.
- Make Sugar Glaze: While the pastries bake, combine the granulated sugar, water, and optional honey in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves completely to form a syrup.
- Glaze Pastries: Once baked, remove the pastries from the oven and immediately brush the warm pastries with the sugar glaze to add shine and sweetness.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the glazed quesitos to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving to enjoy their full flavor and texture.
Notes
- Ensure the cream cheese is softened for easy mixing and smooth filling.
- Do not overfill the pastries to avoid leakage.
- You can substitute honey with corn syrup or omit it if you prefer a less sweet glaze.
- Serve quesitos warm or at room temperature for best texture.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat gently before serving.
