Description

Puerto Rican Chocolate Coquito is a rich and creamy holiday drink blending coconut milk, cream of coconut, evaporated and sweetened condensed milk with melted chocolate and warm spices. This festive beverage combines traditional coquito flavors with a luscious chocolate twist, perfect for celebrating special occasions or cozy winter evenings.

Ingredients

Scale

Coquito Base

  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
  • 1 can (15 oz) cream of coconut (e.g., Coco López)
  • 1 can (13.5 oz) coconut milk

Chocolate Mixture and Spices

  • 1/2 cup dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips (melted)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt

Garnishes

  • Whipped cream
  • Grated chocolate or chocolate syrup
  • Cinnamon stick

Instructions

  1. Melt the Chocolate: Gently melt the dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips in a double boiler or microwave, stirring frequently until smooth. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. Combine the Milks and Cream of Coconut: In a large mixing bowl, pour the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, cream of coconut, and coconut milk. Whisk together until fully blended and smooth.
  3. Add Melted Chocolate and Spices: Stir the melted chocolate into the milk mixture, followed by the ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt. Mix well to combine all flavors evenly.
  4. Chill the Coquito: Transfer the mixture into a sealed container or bottle and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld and the drink to chill thoroughly.
  5. Serve and Garnish: Before serving, shake or stir the coquito well. Pour into glasses and garnish with a dollop of whipped cream, a sprinkle of grated chocolate or a drizzle of chocolate syrup, and a cinnamon stick for added aroma and decoration.

Notes

  • For a boozy version, add 1 cup of white rum after mixing the ingredients and before chilling.
  • Adjust the sweetness by modifying the amount of sweetened condensed milk.
  • Use unsweetened coconut milk for a less sweet, more natural coconut flavor.
  • The nutmeg and cinnamon can be adjusted according to personal taste preferences.
  • Melt chocolate carefully to avoid burning; microwave in short increments or use a double boiler.
  • This recipe can be made a day ahead to develop richer flavors.
  • Shake well before serving, as ingredients may settle during refrigeration.
