Description

Crispy and cheesy Potato Cheese Sticks made with creamy mashed potatoes, mozzarella, and Parmesan, coated in breadcrumbs and fried or air fried to golden perfection. These delicious snacks are perfect for appetizers or party finger foods, offering a comforting blend of flavors and textures.

Ingredients

Scale

Potato Mixture

  • 2 cups mashed potatoes (cooled)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional)

Breading Station

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs (beaten)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs

For Cooking

  • Oil for frying or air frying

Instructions

  1. Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, black pepper, salt, oregano, and optional green onions. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly distributed.
  2. Shape Sticks: Scoop about 2 tablespoons of the mixture and use your hands to shape it into sticks or logs. Place the sticks on a tray and refrigerate for 15–20 minutes to help them firm up and hold their shape.
  3. Prepare Breading Station: Set up three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs. This will make the breading process smooth and organized.
  4. Bread the Sticks: Take each shaped potato stick and dredge it first in flour, then dip it into the beaten eggs, and finally coat it with breadcrumbs, ensuring an even and thorough coating.
  5. Cook the Sticks: For frying, heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry the sticks in batches for approximately 2–3 minutes per side until they are golden brown and crispy. If air frying, preheat the air fryer to 375°F and cook the sticks for 10–12 minutes, flipping halfway through for even crispiness.
  6. Drain and Serve: Once cooked, transfer the sticks to paper towels to absorb any excess oil. Serve warm and enjoy them with your favorite dipping sauces such as ketchup, ranch, or spicy sauce.

Notes

  • These sticks are excellent served with ketchup, ranch dressing, or a spicy dipping sauce.
  • For a gluten-free version, substitute all-purpose flour and breadcrumbs with gluten-free alternatives.
  • Ensure the mashed potatoes are cooled to help the sticks hold their shape better.
  • Refrigerating the sticks before breading helps prevent them from falling apart during cooking.
