Ingredients
Scale
Bread
- 2 slices of bread (sourdough, ciabatta, or whole grain)
Cheese
- 2-3 slices of mozzarella cheese (fresh or shredded)
- Parmesan cheese (optional, for sprinkling)
Sauce & Toppings
- 2 tablespoons of pizza sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- Toppings of choice (pepperoni, bell peppers, mushrooms, olives, etc.)
Other Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon of butter or olive oil (for cooking)
Instructions
- Spread Pizza Sauce: Take one slice of bread and spread a generous layer of pizza sauce evenly over one side to provide that classic pizza flavor base.
- Add Cheese: Place 1-2 slices of mozzarella cheese on top of the sauce to create a melty and creamy texture.
- Add Toppings: Layer your chosen toppings such as pepperoni, bell peppers, mushrooms, or olives over the cheese. For extra cheesiness, sprinkle additional mozzarella on top of the toppings.
- Finish It Off: Place the second slice of bread on top, making sure the sauce side faces inward towards the fillings, forming your sandwich.
- Heat the Pan: Preheat a non-stick skillet over medium heat, ensuring it’s hot enough for a golden crust but not too hot to burn the bread.
- Cook the Sandwich: Place the sandwich in the skillet and cook undisturbed for 3-4 minutes until the bottom is golden brown and crispy.
- Flip It: Carefully flip the sandwich and cook the other side for another 3-4 minutes. If the bread is browning too quickly, reduce the heat to allow the cheese inside to melt properly without burning the exterior.
Notes
- You can customize toppings based on your preference to keep it classic or adventurous.
- Using fresh mozzarella gives a creamier texture, but shredded mozzarella melts faster and more evenly.
- For a crispier outer crust, sprinkle Parmesan cheese on the outside of the buttered bread before cooking.
- If your stove runs hot, lower heat after the first minute of cooking to ensure cheese melts without burning bread.
- Serve warm with extra pizza sauce or marinara for dipping.
