Description

Philly Steak Cheese Fries combine crispy golden fries topped with tender, sautéed steak, caramelized peppers and onions, and melted provolone cheese, making a perfect indulgent appetizer or main course inspired by classic Philly flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

Fries

  • 1 lb frozen or homemade French fries
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Steak and Vegetables

  • 1/2 lb thinly sliced beef steak (such as ribeye or sirloin)
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1/2 onion, sliced

Toppings

  • 1 cup shredded provolone cheese or cheese sauce
  • Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Fries: Prepare the French fries according to the package directions or bake homemade fries until they are crispy and golden brown. Once done, set them aside on a serving platter or oven-safe dish.
  2. Sauté Vegetables: Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add sliced onions and green bell peppers, cooking and stirring occasionally until they soften and become slightly caramelized, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  3. Cook the Steak: Push the caramelized vegetables to one side of the skillet. Add the thinly sliced steak to the empty side and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring occasionally until the steak is browned and cooked through. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Assemble and Melt Cheese: Evenly distribute the cooked steak, peppers, and onions over the fries. Sprinkle shredded provolone cheese on top or drizzle with warm cheese sauce. Place the assembled dish under the broiler for 1 to 2 minutes if needed to melt the cheese thoroughly.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Remove from the broiler, garnish with chopped parsley if desired, and serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Use cheese whiz for a classic Philly-style twist on the cheese topping.
  • Substitute provolone with mozzarella or pepper jack cheese for different flavor variations.
  • To keep this dish gluten-free, ensure the fries and cheese used are certified gluten-free.
