Description

These Philly Cheesesteak Sliders are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or meal option featuring tender shaved steak, sautéed onions and bell peppers, and melted provolone cheese nestled inside soft Hawaiian rolls. The sliders are topped with a flavorful buttery glaze and baked to golden perfection, offering the classic Philly cheesesteak flavors in a convenient slider form.

Ingredients

Scale

Sliders

  • 12 Hawaiian rolls
  • 12 slices provolone cheese, thinly sliced

Steak and Vegetables

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 yellow onion, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ lb fresh shaved steak (beef or chicken)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste

Butter Glaze

  • ¼ cup butter, melted
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare baking dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
  2. Sauté onions and peppers: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook until they soften. Then add the thinly sliced green bell peppers and minced garlic, cooking until all vegetables are softened and fragrant. Remove from pan and set aside.
  3. Cook shaved steak: Using the same skillet, add the fresh shaved steak. Break it up with a wooden spoon and cook until browned. Season with Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and freshly cracked black pepper. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Make the butter glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, dried thyme, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce until well combined.
  5. Assemble sliders: Arrange the bottom halves of the Hawaiian rolls evenly in the prepared baking dish. Layer half of the provolone cheese over the rolls, then half of the sautéed vegetables, followed by all of the cooked shaved steak. Top with the remaining provolone cheese slices and the rest of the sautéed vegetables. Place the top halves of the rolls over everything and brush the tops generously with the prepared butter glaze.
  6. Bake sliders: Place the assembled sliders in the preheated oven and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the cheese has melted and become bubbly.
  7. Serve: Remove from the oven, slice the full sliders into individual portions, and serve immediately while warm and melty.

Notes

  • You can substitute the shaved steak with thinly sliced chicken for a lighter option.
  • Use gluten-free rolls to make this recipe gluten-free.
  • For extra heat, add sliced jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the vegetable sauté.
  • Prepare sliders a few hours ahead, assemble, cover, refrigerate, and bake just before serving for convenience.
  • Use a sharp serrated knife to slice the slider block cleanly after baking.
