Ingredients
Scale
Pizza Dough
- 1 pound pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
Topping
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 8 ounces fresh morel mushrooms, cleaned and sliced
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons fresh thyme leaves
- 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 475°F (246°C) and lightly flour a pizza stone or baking sheet to prepare for baking.
- Caramelize Onions: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil and butter over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions along with salt and black pepper. Cook slowly for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onions are golden and caramelized.
- Cook Morel Mushrooms: Add the cleaned and sliced morel mushrooms to the skillet with the caramelized onions. Continue cooking for another 5 to 7 minutes until the mushrooms are tender and infused with flavor.
- Prepare Dough: Roll out the pizza dough to your desired thickness on a lightly floured surface and place it carefully onto the prepared pizza stone or baking sheet.
- Assemble Pizza: Evenly spread the caramelized onion and morel mushroom mixture over the pizza dough. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheeses on top, followed by fresh thyme leaves. If desired, drizzle with balsamic vinegar for added complexity.
- Bake: Bake the pizza in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until the crust turns golden brown and the cheese has melted and become bubbly.
- Serve: Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for 2 to 3 minutes. Slice into four servings and enjoy warm for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, substitute olive oil with garlic butter when caramelizing onions.
- If morel mushrooms are unavailable, try substituting other wild mushrooms like chanterelles or porcini.
- Add fresh herbs such as parsley or arugula after baking for extra color and fresh flavor.
