Ingredients
Scale
Beef Patties
- 2 (4 oz) beef patties (80% lean)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for cooking)
Cheese and Buns
- 2 slices cheddar cheese
- 2 soft burger buns
Condiments and Toppings
- 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- Pickle slices (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat skillet: Preheat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat and add the vegetable oil to ensure the patties won’t stick.
- Season and place patties: Season the beef patties with salt and pepper. Place them on the hot skillet immediately to start cooking.
- Smash patties: Using a spatula, immediately smash each patty down to form a thin layer. Cook for 2–3 minutes until the edges are crispy and caramelized.
- Flip and add cheese: Flip the patties and quickly place a slice of cheddar cheese on each. Cook for another 1–2 minutes until the cheese melts and the patties are fully cooked.
- Toast buns: Meanwhile, toast the burger buns in the same skillet for about 1 minute until they are lightly golden and crispy.
- Spread condiments: Spread mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard evenly on the bottom halves of the toasted buns.
- Assemble burger: Place the cheesy beef patties on top of the dressed buns, then add sliced onions and optional pickle slices.
- Serve: Cover with the top half of the buns and serve immediately while hot and fresh.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, use a sturdy spatula to smash patties firmly.
- Use 80% lean beef for the best balance of juiciness and flavor.
- Customize with additional toppings like lettuce, tomato, or bacon if desired.
- Cooking times may vary slightly depending on your skillet and stove.
- Serve with your favorite side like fries or a salad for a complete meal.
