Description

This Homemade Peach Chutney is a sweet and tangy condiment made with fresh peaches, dried fruits, spices, and crystallized ginger. Perfect as a versatile topping or spread, it pairs wonderfully with pork, ham, chicken, or turkey, adding a burst of flavor to any meal. The chutney is easy to prepare on the stovetop and can be stored for weeks, making it a great make-ahead addition to your pantry.

Ingredients

Scale

Fresh Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh peaches, peeled and diced (about 6–7 peaches)
  • 1/3 cup sweet onion, diced
  • 1 jar McCormick crystallized ginger (about 2 oz or 1/4 cup chopped)

Liquids

  • 3/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice

Dried Fruits

  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries

Spices and Seasonings

  • 1 tablespoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

Sweetener and Thickener

  • 7 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 pouch Certo liquid fruit pectin

Instructions

  1. Prepare the peaches: Peel and dice the fresh peaches, measuring out about 4 cups from 6–7 peaches and set them aside for the chutney preparation.
  2. Combine ingredients: In a large pot, combine the peaches, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, raisins, dried cranberries, diced onion, crystallized ginger, sea salt, allspice, cinnamon, cloves, ground ginger, and granulated sugar. Make sure not to add the pectin at this stage.
  3. Cook the chutney: Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over medium heat, stirring regularly to prevent sticking or scorching. Once boiling, continue to stir constantly for one full minute to properly cook the ingredients.
  4. Add pectin: Remove the pot from heat and immediately stir in the Certo liquid fruit pectin. Continue stirring for about 5 minutes as the mixture cools slightly, ensuring the chutney thickens appropriately.
  5. Serve or store: Serve the chutney at room temperature as a topping for pork, ham, chicken, or turkey. It can also be used as a flavorful dip or sandwich spread.
  6. Storage: Transfer the chutney into airtight containers. Refrigerate for up to 2 weeks or freeze for up to 4 months in a freezer-safe container. When ready to serve after freezing, thaw overnight in the refrigerator and remove from the fridge about 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure to stir the mixture constantly during boiling to prevent burning.
  • The crystallized ginger adds a unique spicy sweetness, but you can adjust the amount to your taste.
  • If you prefer a less sweet chutney, you can slightly reduce the granulated sugar, but this may affect preservation.
  • Use fresh, ripe peaches for the best flavor and texture.
  • This chutney pairs well with grilled meats and can also be used as a condiment for sandwiches or salads.
