Ingredients
Scale
Fruit
- 6 sweet apples, chopped
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
Sautéing & Topping
- 2 tsp coconut oil (for sautéing)
- 2/3 cup oats
- 2/3 cup pecans
- 1 tbsp coconut oil (for topping)
- 2 tsp honey
- 1 tbsp water
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) to get it ready for baking the crumble later.
- Prepare the apples: Chop the sweet apples into small, even pieces to ensure they cook uniformly during sautéing.
- Sauté the apples: Heat a pan over medium-high heat and add 2 teaspoons of coconut oil. Add the chopped apples, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Sauté for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples begin to soften and release their natural juices.
- Make the crumble topping: In a food processor or blender, combine the oats, pecans, 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, honey, and water. Blend until the mixture forms a sticky, crumbly texture, ensuring the topping will hold together in clusters.
- Prepare the baking dish: Lightly grease a small baking dish with coconut oil or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Assemble the crumble: Spread the sautéed apples evenly across the bottom of the prepared baking dish to form the base layer.
- Add the topping: Crumble the oat and pecan mixture over the apples. Allow some small chunks to remain for a crunchy texture.
- Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes until the topping turns golden brown and crispy.
- Cool and serve: Remove the crumble from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving. This will help the topping set and intensify the flavors.
Notes
- Use naturally sweet apples like Fuji or Gala for the best flavor.
- You can substitute pecans with walnuts or almonds according to preference.
- Adjust honey to taste for a sweeter or less sweet crumble.
- Serve with Greek yogurt or plant-based yogurt for extra protein and creaminess.
- Store leftovers covered in the fridge and reheat gently before serving.
