Ingredients
Scale
Fritter Dough
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
For Frying and Serving
- Vegetable oil (for frying, enough to fill deep skillet about 2 inches)
- Honey (for drizzling, warmed)
Instructions
- Heat Milk Mixture: In a small saucepan, combine milk, olive oil, and kosher salt. Heat over medium-high heat until the milk is hot but not boiling to prepare the liquid base for the dough.
- Make the Dough: Remove the saucepan from heat and add all the flour at once. Stir vigorously with a wooden spoon until the dough forms into a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
- Chill the Dough: Transfer the hot dough into a loaf pan lined with cling film to prevent sticking. Cover and chill in the refrigerator for several hours until the dough is firm and easier to handle.
- Heat Oil for Frying: In a deep skillet or saucepan, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure the correct temperature for frying.
- Shape and Fry Fritters: Remove the chilled dough from the refrigerator and cut into small pieces. Carefully drop the pieces into the hot oil in batches, frying for 4-5 minutes until the fritters turn golden brown and crispy.
- Drain the Fritters: Use a slotted spoon to remove fritters from the oil and drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- Drizzle with Honey: Warm honey gently until pourable. Drizzle generously over the hot fritters and turn them to coat each side, allowing the honey to seep in.
- Serve Immediately: Serve the fritters warm for the best texture and flavor. Enjoy your sweet and crispy fried honey fritters!
Notes
- Ensure the milk is hot but not boiling to activate the flour properly without cooking it prematurely.
- Chilling the dough helps it firm up and makes it easier to cut into fritter-sized pieces.
- Maintain the oil temperature at 350°F for even frying and to prevent greasy fritters.
- Fry fritters in small batches to avoid overcrowding the pan, which can lower oil temperature.
- You can substitute honey with maple syrup or powdered sugar for variation.
- Store any leftover fritters in an airtight container and reheat in an oven or air fryer for crispiness.
