Description

This Easy Chicken Cordon Bleu recipe features tender chicken breasts stuffed with savory ham and Swiss cheese, breaded and seared to golden perfection, then baked until juicy and delicious. Perfect for a comforting and elegant dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 8 slices of ham
  • 4 slices of Swiss cheese

Breading

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs

Cooking

  • Olive oil or butter for cooking
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prepare for baking the chicken rolls later.
  2. Prepare Chicken: Place the chicken breasts between sheets of plastic wrap and gently pound them with a mallet or rolling pin until they are about half an inch thick, then season both sides with salt and pepper.
  3. Assemble Rolls: Lay two slices of ham and one slice of Swiss cheese on each flattened chicken breast, then carefully roll each breast tightly around the filling and secure with toothpicks if necessary to hold the shape.
  4. Bread the Rolls: Set up a breading station with three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs. Dredge each chicken roll first in flour, then dip into the eggs, and finally coat well with breadcrumbs.
  5. Sear the Rolls: Heat olive oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat. Place the breaded chicken rolls in the skillet and sear them for about 3-4 minutes on each side until they develop a golden brown crust.
  6. Bake the Chicken: Transfer the seared rolls onto the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until the chicken is fully cooked through and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).

Notes

  • Use a meat mallet to evenly flatten the chicken breasts to ensure even cooking and easy rolling.
  • If toothpicks are used to secure the rolls, remember to remove them before serving.
  • For extra crispiness, you can use panko breadcrumbs instead of regular ones.
  • Serve with a side of steamed vegetables or a fresh green salad for a balanced meal.
