Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Optional Toppings
- Melted butter for brushing
- Herbs or sea salt for topping
Instructions
- Activate yeast: In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let the mixture sit for 5–10 minutes until it becomes foamy, indicating the yeast is active.
- Mix dough: Stir in the flour, salt, and olive oil until a sticky dough forms. This creates the base for your bread.
- Knead dough: Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for this step.
- Shape dough: Shape the kneaded dough into a ball and place it on a sheet of parchment paper. This helps in easy lifting and prevents sticking.
- Cook in crockpot: Using the parchment paper, lift and transfer the dough into the crockpot. Cover and cook on high for 2 to 2 1/2 hours until the bread is fully cooked and the internal temperature reaches 190–200°F.
- Optional broil: For a golden and crispy top, transfer the cooked bread onto a baking sheet and broil in the oven for 2–4 minutes.
- Cool and serve: Allow the bread to cool before slicing to ensure the best texture and ease of slicing.
Notes
- This basic recipe can be customized by adding cheese, garlic, herbs, or substituting part of the flour with whole wheat for added flavor and nutrition.
- Use parchment paper to prevent the bread from sticking to the crockpot and to easily lift the bread out after cooking.
- Ensure water is warm but not hot to properly activate the yeast without killing it.
- Check the internal temperature with a thermometer to confirm doneness for best results.
