Description

These Crispy Chicken Wonton Tacos combine crunchy baked wonton shells with a flavorful, tangy chicken filling and fresh slaw for a delightful Asian-inspired appetizer that’s perfect for parties or quick snacks.

Ingredients

Scale

Wonton Shells

  • 12 square wonton wrappers
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for brushing)

Chicken Filling

  • 1 cup cooked chicken breast, shredded
  • ¼ cup sweet chili sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger

Slaw Mix

  • ½ cup shredded cabbage or slaw mix
  • ¼ cup shredded carrots
  • 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro

Toppings

  • ¼ cup sour cream or spicy mayo
  • Chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Wonton Shells: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly brush both sides of each wonton wrapper with vegetable oil. Drape the wrappers over the edge of a baking dish or a taco mold to form a taco shape.
  2. Bake the Wonton Shells: Bake the wonton wrappers in the oven for 6–8 minutes, or until they become golden brown and crisp. Remove from the oven and allow them to cool slightly to set their shape.
  3. Prepare the Chicken Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the shredded chicken with sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, lime juice, garlic powder, and ground ginger. Mix well to evenly coat the chicken with the flavorful sauce.
  4. Make the Slaw: In another bowl, toss together the shredded cabbage or slaw mix, shredded carrots, and chopped cilantro until well combined.
  5. Assemble the Tacos: Once the wonton shells are crisp and cooled slightly, fill each shell with a portion of the chicken mixture. Top with the prepared slaw mix.
  6. Add Toppings and Serve: Drizzle each taco with sour cream or spicy mayo to taste. Garnish with chopped green onions. Serve immediately to enjoy maximum crunch from the wonton shells.

Notes

  • For extra crispy wonton shells, you can air fry them instead of baking.
  • Substitute the chicken with tofu or shrimp for a different protein option.
  • If preparing ahead of time, store the wonton shells, chicken filling, and slaw separately to maintain freshness and crispness.
  • Omit sour cream or spicy mayo to make this recipe dairy-free.
