Description

This Chocolate Mousse Pie is a decadent and creamy dessert featuring a rich blend of semi-sweet and bittersweet chocolate combined with marshmallows for extra smoothness and sweetness. The airy chocolate mousse is set in a crunchy Oreo pie crust and topped with sweetened whipped cream and chocolate shavings, making it an irresistible treat perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Mousse Base

  • 2 Tbsp salted butter, diced
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup bittersweet chocolate chips
  • 2 cups mini marshmallows
  • 1/3 cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 3/4 cups heavy whipping cream

Pie Crust

  • 1 Oreo pie crust

Whipped Cream Topping

  • 1 cup (235ml) heavy cream
  • 2 Tbsp (25g) granulated sugar
  • Chocolate shavings, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare Chocolate Mixture: In a large saucepan over low heat, combine diced butter, whole milk, semi-sweet and bittersweet chocolate chips, and mini marshmallows. Stir continuously until the marshmallows are completely melted and the mixture is smooth and creamy. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla extract, and let cool at room temperature for 1 hour.
  2. Whip Heavy Cream: Pour 1 3/4 cups heavy whipping cream into a large bowl. Using an electric mixer, whip until stiff peaks form, taking care not to overwhip to maintain desired texture.
  3. Fold Cream into Chocolate: Gently fold the whipped cream into the cooled chocolate mixture using a spatula until the mixture is light, fluffy, and uniform in color, being careful not to overmix to keep the mousse airy.
  4. Assemble Pie: Pour the chocolate mousse into the prepared Oreo pie crust and spread evenly with a spatula to cover the crust uniformly.
  5. Chill to Set: Refrigerate the pie for at least 3 hours to allow the mousse to firm up properly.
  6. Prepare Whipped Cream Topping: In a clean bowl, combine 1 cup heavy cream and granulated sugar. Whip until stiff peaks form to create a smooth, stable whipped cream.
  7. Finish and Garnish: Spread the sweetened whipped cream evenly over the chilled mousse pie. Garnish generously with chocolate shavings. Keep chilled until ready to serve. Slice and serve chilled.

Notes

  • Be careful to avoid overwhipping the cream to maintain a light, airy mousse texture.
  • Allowing the chocolate mixture to cool thoroughly before folding in whipped cream prevents deflation.
  • Chilling time is essential to set the mousse properly; do not rush this step.
  • Oreo pie crust adds a complementary chocolate flavor and crunchy texture to the smooth mousse.
  • Chocolate shavings can be substituted with cocoa powder or chocolate curls for garnish variation.
