- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp minced fresh ginger
Asian Slaw
- 1 (397g) bag coleslaw mix
- 4 green onions, thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp honey
Other
- 16 wonton wrappers
- Sweet chili sauce, to serve
- Chopped cilantro, to serve
- Sesame seeds, to serve
- Cooking spray or olive/canola oil for brushing
Instructions
- Prepare the Wonton Shells: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray or brush the wonton wrappers with cooking oil. Drape each wrapper over the side of a 9×13 inch baking dish to form a cup shape. Bake for 7-8 minutes, keeping a close eye to prevent burning. Remove from oven and gently separate the wonton cups while still pliable. Return the separated shells to the oven and bake an additional 7-8 minutes until they are crispy and golden brown.
- Cook the Chicken: In a large bowl, mix the finely diced chicken breasts with hoisin sauce, sesame oil, soy sauce, minced garlic, and minced fresh ginger until evenly coated. Heat a large skillet over high heat, then add the chicken mixture. Sauté for 7-8 minutes, stirring frequently, until the chicken is cooked through and coated in the flavorful sauce.
- Mix the Slaw: While the chicken cooks, prepare the slaw by combining the coleslaw mix, thinly sliced green onions, sesame oil, rice vinegar, soy sauce, and honey in a large bowl. Toss thoroughly to ensure all ingredients are evenly mixed.
- Assemble the Tacos: Spoon the cooked chicken mixture into each crispy wonton shell. Top each with a generous helping of the Asian slaw. Drizzle sweet chili sauce over the top, then garnish with chopped cilantro and a sprinkle of sesame seeds for an extra burst of flavor and texture.
- Serve: Serve the chicken wonton tacos immediately while the shells remain crisp. Enjoy these as a fun, flavorful appetizer or a light main dish that is sure to impress your guests.
Notes
- Keep a close watch on the wonton shells during baking to prevent burning; ovens vary in heat intensity.
- For extra spice, add a dash of sriracha or chili flakes to the chicken mixture.
- Wonton shells are best served immediately to maintain their crispiness; if necessary, reheat briefly in the oven to restore crunch.
- Substitute chicken with tofu or shrimp for a different protein option.
- Make the slaw ahead of time and refrigerate, but assemble tacos just before serving to avoid sogginess.
