Ingredients
Scale
Sushi Rice
- 2 cups sushi rice cooked and cooled
- 3 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Roll Ingredients
- 4 nori sheets
- 1 cup imitation crab meat shredded
- 1 ripe avocado sliced
- 1/2 cucumber cut into thin strips
- 1/2 cup tempura flakes
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
Spicy Mayonnaise
- 1/3 cup mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon sriracha (optional)
To Serve
- Soy sauce
- Pickled ginger (optional)
- Wasabi (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare Sushi Rice: In a small bowl, mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Gently fold this mixture into the cooked sushi rice and allow to cool to room temperature for optimal texture and flavor.
- Spread Rice on Nori: Place a sheet of nori shiny side down on a bamboo sushi mat. Evenly spread about 1/2 cup of the cooled sushi rice over the nori, leaving a small border at the top edge. Sprinkle sesame seeds over the rice, then carefully flip the nori so the rice side faces down.
- Mix Spicy Mayonnaise: Combine mayonnaise and sriracha (if using) in a small bowl to create a creamy spicy sauce for the roll.
- Assemble the Filling: Lay a line of shredded imitation crab, avocado slices, cucumber strips, a drizzle of spicy mayonnaise, and a small handful of tempura flakes across the center of the nori sheet.
- Roll the Sushi: Using the bamboo mat, roll the sushi tightly away from you, pressing gently to keep the roll compact and secure. Repeat the process with the remaining ingredients for additional rolls.
- Slice the Rolls: Using a sharp knife moistened lightly with water, slice each roll into 6 to 8 pieces for clean, neat cuts.
- Serve: Arrange the sushi pieces on a plate and serve with soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi, as desired for added flavor.
Notes
- Wet the knife between cuts to ensure clean, neat sushi slices.
- Extra tempura flakes can be sprinkled on top of the rolls to enhance crunchiness.
- For a spicier kick, drizzle additional sriracha mayonnaise over the finished rolls.
