Description

These Bang Bang Chicken Skewers are a flavorful and easy-to-make air fryer recipe featuring juicy chicken chunks seasoned with spices and served with a creamy, spicy, and slightly sweet Bang Bang sauce. Perfect as an appetizer or main dish, they cook quickly and deliver a crispy exterior with tender inside.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken Skewers

  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breast or thighs, cut into 1-inch chunks
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • Skewers (wooden or metal – soak wooden ones in water for 30 minutes)

Bang Bang Sauce

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tbsp sriracha (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tbsp honey or sugar (optional for extra sweetness)
  • 1 tsp lime juice (optional, for a tangy kick)

Instructions

  1. Preheat air fryer: Set your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) to ensure it reaches the right temperature before cooking.
  2. Season the chicken: In a bowl, toss the chicken chunks with olive oil, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper until each piece is evenly coated with the seasoning.
  3. Skewer the chicken: Thread the seasoned chicken pieces evenly onto the soaked or metal skewers, spacing them to allow even cooking.
  4. Air fry: Place the chicken skewers in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook for 10–12 minutes, flipping them halfway through the cooking time, until the chicken is golden brown and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  5. Make the Bang Bang Sauce: While the chicken is cooking, combine the mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, honey or sugar (if using), and lime juice (if using) in a bowl. Mix until smooth and well blended.
  6. Sauce and serve: Once cooked, brush the bang bang sauce generously over the hot skewers or serve on the side as a dipping sauce. Garnish with chopped green onions or sesame seeds if desired for added flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Soak wooden skewers in water for at least 30 minutes prior to cooking to prevent burning in the air fryer.
  • Adjust sriracha amount in the sauce to suit your spice preference.
  • Use chicken thighs for juicier skewers or chicken breast for leaner options.
  • Ensure chicken pieces are of uniform size for even cooking.
  • Internal temperature of cooked chicken should reach 165°F (74°C) for safety.
  • Garnishing with green onions or sesame seeds enhances the presentation and flavor.
